The Traffic Control Lead assists the Foreman and Construction Crew Supervisor in coordinating crews to maintain safe traffic control around construction sites to keep motorists, pedestrians and construction workers safe. The Lead will also assist the crew in placing, removing, and repairing traffic control devices and cover for crew breaks as needed.

  • Coordinate Crew job tasks
  • Perform vehicle checks to ensure compliance with DOT regulations
  • Implement NPL Safety and Quality procedures at all times
  • Other duties as required

Education, Skills, Experience Needed

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 1 year of traffic control experience
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations pertaining to commercial vehicles
  • Ability to comprehend specific directions so as to ensure safe and OSHA compliant practices
  • Ability to interact with public, supervisors, and coworkers professionally at all times
  • Ability to think clearly no matter the stress or difficulty of your circumstances

Working Environment

  • Work sites are outdoors in potentially extreme weather conditions
  • All worksite safety instructions are written and spoken in English; must be fluent in English
  • Work includes prolonged and repeated: lifting (including overhead, up to 50lbs); standing; climbing; kneeling; reaching and feeling; crouching and crawling
  • Work is performed within the “red zone” of heavy equipment
  • Working safely requires quick/accurate hand-eye coordination


  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
  • Provide valid US work authorization documents for E-Verify
  • Valid driver’s license with no more than 3 moving violations and no DUIs within a two year rolling period
  • Pre-employment medical fit-for-duty test; hold/obtain DOT medical card
  • Work with a heightened awareness within the “red zone” of heavy equipment
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and overtime
  • Join and maintain Union membership (If applicable)
